“One Nation One Election is in the best interest of the nation as frequent elections hinder development,” Giriraj Singh told reporters. The country will be strengthened by One Nation One Election rather than its federal structure being weakened. Congress’s double standards are evident if they oppose One Nation One Election.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 will be introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on December 16.The Constitution (one hundred and twenty-nineth amendment) Bill, 2024: Arjun Ram Meghwal will request permission to present a bill that will further change the Indian Constitution. In addition, the bill was introduced,” the list of company said.

Two bills were proposed: one to align elections for Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Puducherry legislatures, and the other to hold simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and State assemblies.

Arjun Ram Meghwal will also request permission to introduce a bill to amend the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 in the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. To introduce Bill as well.

The One Nation One election concept has drawn criticism from a number of opposition figures who claim it is unworkable and an assault on federalism. ‘One Nation, One Election’ senior Congress leader and RS MP Digvijay Singh said that a state government must stay in power for the remaining 4.5 years if it loses its majority or collapses within six months.

“No state may postpone elections for more than six months. Will we be left without a government for four and a half years if the One Nation One Election is implemented and a state’s administration is overthrown within six months and a resolution of no-confidence is approved? In our nation, this is not feasible. In the past, governments would serve out their whole five-year tenure, but now some only last two and a half years, while others last three.

Saying that the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ law threatens democracy, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh called for it to be sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

“We want the measure to be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for debate when it is introduced in Parliament. In a four-page letter to former President Ram Nath Kovind’s committee on One Nation, One Election last year, party president Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the Indian National Congress’ stance, saying, “We oppose the bill,” Ramesh told the media.

The Union Cabinet adopted the ‘One Nation One Election’ law on December 12, opening the door for its submission in Parliament. However, the measure sparked discussion between the opposition and governing parties prior to its submission in Parliament.

The BJP-led NDA coalition parties praised the law, claiming it would save time and set the stage for national elections, but many INDIA bloc members rejected it.

The ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, which intends to organize simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, as well as urban body and panchayat polls, within 100 days, was notably endorsed by the Union Cabinet in September of this year.

Former President Kovind convened a high-level team that produced a report outlining the suggestions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Cabinet’s decision after it was approved, describing it as a major step to strengthen India’s democracy.
