Gaurav Gogoi: The resignation of Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh is intended to preserve the state’s BJP administration
New Delhi: Gaurav Gogoi said that Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh’s resignation was intended to preserve the BJP administration in the state after Singh’s resignation as Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
“The resignation of N Biren Singh is not intended to save the people of Manipur, but rather the BJP government in the state,” Gaurav Gogoi said in a post on X. Amit Shah, the home minister, took over after realizing that the BJP would lose the vote of no confidence. The BJP, in my opinion, has no plan in place to bring peace and normality back to Manipur. The party’s tendency to prioritize its own interests above the demands of the populace is ingrained in its DNA.
In response to increasing pressure from the public, the Supreme Court, and the Congress, Biren Singh resigned, according to earlier remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.
In addition, Gandhi said that Biren Singh was “instigating” discord in Manipur and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “allowing him to continue.”
Biren Singh, the chief minister of the BJP, caused discord in Manipur for over two years. Despite the bloodshed, fatalities, and devastation of the Indian concept in Manipur, PM Modi let him go,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.
“The resignation of CM Biren Singh shows that mounting public pressure, the SC investigation and the no-confidence motion by the Congress have forced a reckoning,” Gandhi said.
At Raj Bhawan here, Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Sunday, almost two years after the state was rocked by violence.
Following a demonstration organized by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3, 2023, in response to a Manipur High Court judgment ordering the state to take the Meitei community’s inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes list into consideration, violence broke out between the Kuki and Meitei tribes in Manipur.
Along with him were at least 19 MLAs, BJP president A. Sharda, and Sambit Patra, the party’s in-charge of North East Manipur.
In his letter of resignation, Singh said, “Serving the people of Manipur thus far has been an honor.”
“I am extremely grateful to the central government for timely actions, interventions, developmental work and implementation of various projects for safeguarding the interest of every single Manipuri,” the letter said.
The central government should keep doing the same, he suggested.
“I would like to use this opportunity to list the most significant ones: to preserve Manipur’s land, which has a long and varied history of civilization spanning thousands of years. to develop policies for the removal of illegal immigrants and to combat border infiltration. must keep up the battle against narcoterrorism and narcotics. to maintain the rigorous and infallible updated FMR method while strictly implementing the biometric. Singh’s letter said, “A faster and time-bound border is being established.”
