Heavy snowfall is now having an impact on Himachal Pradesh, especially in the higher elevations of the districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla.

Since most of the snow that had collected in different places was removed by nighttime rain, life in Shimla, the state capital, is slowly getting back to normal. But there are still a lot of obstacles to overcome before the roads can be cleared of snow. Road connection has been restored with the help of laborers and large equipment.

“The snow that fell during the day yesterday has now been cleared,” said Beer Bahadur, a laborer working on the snow removal project in Shimla. We first arrived to clear the snow since it was making cars slick. After five or six of us collaborated, the roadways are now clean.

Three national highways are among the 174 routes in the state that are still blocked, according to statistics from the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority. In addition, 683 electrical delivery networks have been impacted, resulting in power outages in several places.

Tourists are enjoying the winter beauty as locals deal with the difficulties caused by the heavy snowfall. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event for many.

A Ghaziabad visitor named Jatin expressed his enthusiasm, stating that he had an incredible time here.

“I’ve had an incredible time here. We arrived with the hopes of seeing a lot of snow. We were fortunate to see a lot of snowfall since we were fifty percent certain it would snow. We even traveled to Kufri, where there was a sizable audience and a lot of snowfall. It’s been a great experience. The preparations in Shimla are excellent, and we had no issues. We had a great time,” he told ANI.

The state has seen a dramatic dip in temperature as a consequence of the heavy snowfall. The temperature at Kukumseri was even lower at -6.9 degrees Celsius, while Lahaul-Spiti registered -4.7 degrees. Temperatures dropped to -2.9 degrees Celsius in Narkanda, Shimla district, and -0.6 degrees Celsius in Rakchham, Kinnaur.

Shimla city recorded 1.8 degrees Celsius, while Kufri reported -1.5 degrees. The temperature dropped sharply in several areas, including Kalpa in Kinnaur (-2.5 degrees Celsius), Manali (0.5 degrees Celsius), Dharamshala (5.8 degrees Celsius), and Mandi (0.6 degrees Celsius).

On December 27 and 28, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further significant snowfall in the middle and higher parts of Himachal Pradesh.
