Singh also received last respects from a number of politicians, including Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP and the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha; Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Wayanad Lok Sabha MP; Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress; Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka; and DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s funeral march preparations are under way at Nigam Bodh Ghat near Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. Today is the scheduled day for Dr. Manmohan Singh’s last rituals.

To pay their last respects, a number of people also gathered outside the former prime minister’s Delhi home. East Delhi resident Jasmeet said she had traveled with her spouse to honor Manmohan Singh, whom she believes is responsible for India’s international fame.

Prior to Dr. Manmohan Singh’s burial, the Delhi Traffic Police had already issued an advisory. In order to assist in reducing traffic, the traffic advisory urges people to take public transportation and steer clear of certain roadways. It also describes limitations and detours on New Delhi’s main thoroughfares.

According to a post by the Indian National Congress on X, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had earlier called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and asked that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s burial be held in a location where a monument might be constructed.

“I am writing this in light of the tragic passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Indian prime minister. Regarding our phone chat this morning, I asked that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death ceremonies, which are scheduled for tomorrow, December 28, 2024, be held at his ultimate resting place, which would serve as a sacred site for the great son of India’s legacy. In his letter, Kharge said, “This is consistent with the custom of placing monuments of politicians and former prime ministers at the exact location of their burial.

A monument, Kharge said, would be an appropriate homage to a leader who ascended from lowly origins to become a powerful politician.

Home Minister Amit Shah informed Congress President Kharge and the late Dr. Manmohan Singh’s family that the government will set aside space for the monument as soon as the Cabinet meeting concluded.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s last rituals would be conducted at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi tonight at 11:45 PM.

Over the course of his multi-decade political career, Dr. Singh held a number of noteworthy roles, including Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, when he led economic reforms that revolutionized the Indian economy. From 2004 until 2014, he was India’s thirteenth prime minister, replacing Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His achievements in modernizing India’s economy and his steadfast leadership despite economic downturns are what people remember most about his term.

Having guided India through a time of unparalleled expansion and global acclaim, Dr. Singh withdrew from public life after his second term. Following the Congress-led UPA’s defeat in the 2014 general elections, Narendra Modi took over as leader.
