Eight people, including a child and four women, died after a bus fell into a drain in Bathinda
A bus crashed into a sewer in Bathinda on Friday, killing eight people—including four women and a child—and injuring numerous more, according to the police.
“8 people died in the accident including a child, a specially-abled person and four women,” according to an official.
“A total of eight deaths have been confirmed, 46 passengers have been rescued, and the health condition of the remaining passengers is stable,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bathinda Amneet Kondal told ANI. According to the persons that were saved, the bus was traveling a little too quickly when it collided with a car approaching from the other direction, causing it to go down the drain.
Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, expressed his sorrow over the deaths in the accident on Friday and prayed to God for the deceased’s rest and the wounded passengers’ quick recovery.
“We have received sad news of a private bus accident in Lasada Drain on Talwandi Sabo Road in Bathinda,” CM Mann said in a post on X. The administrative staff is on the scene. Rescue efforts are underway, the wounded have been sent to the hospital, and we are continuously gathering information. I want God to grant the deceased peace and for the wounded passengers to recover quickly.
Partap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Punjab assembly, too conveyed his sorrow over the accident victims’ deaths and urged the state government to help the victims in any way it can.
“It is very saddening that a private bus coming from Sardulgarh to Bathinda met with a tragic accident at village Jeevan Singh Wala (Bathinda),” Bajwa said in a post on X on Friday. According to reports, this disaster claimed eight lives and wounded several more. I send my deepest sympathies to the victims’ families and wish the wounded a quick recovery.
