Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hits Mulugu district of Telangana

Mulugu: The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reports that a 5.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Telangana’s Mulugu district Wednesday morning.

The NCS reports that the earthquake, which was 40 kilometers deep and centered in the Mulugu area, was detected at around 7:27 a.m. on Wednesday.

“EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana,” was posted on X by the National Centre for Seismology.

There were no early reports of significant damage or deaths.

India is divided into four seismic zones: Zone II, Zone III, Zone IV, and Zone V. While Zone II is linked to the lowest amount of seismicity, Zone V anticipates the greatest intensity. Telangana falls inside the low-intensity Zone II.

Eleven percent of the nation is in zone V, eighteen percent is in zone IV, thirty percent is in zone III, and the remainder is in zone II. Approximately 59% of India’s landmass, which includes all of its states, is vulnerable to earthquakes of varying magnitudes.
