According to a caregiver at a night shelter on Lodhi Road, there are 20 individuals there but only 19 beds, and some of them are relocated. The poor are also given food and hot water.

“We have blankets, pillows, bed linens, mattresses, and beds here. A television and a hot water maker are present. There are additional amenities like refrigerators and fans. If there are an additional person or two, we change our 19 beds accordingly. Tea is served in the morning. Rice and pulses are served for lunch in the afternoon. “Veggies and rotis are served for dinner,” he said.

He said that an ambulance is summoned and the patient is transferred to the hospital if someone becomes ill at night.

“In the daytime, if anyone gets unwell, then there is a small hospital in the nearby temple where they are taken,” he said.

According to a female guard, 15–16 women reside there permanently.

Here, we provide breakfast in the morning in addition to cuisine all day long. In the summer, there are coolers available, a television, and a hot water facility. There are also CCTV cameras and medications in place,” she continued.

In a number of northern Indian states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and others, the India Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning.

According to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Air Quality Index has become worse as Delhi struggles with a cold wave, with readings once again over the 400 threshold.

With ‘immediate effect’ on Monday evening, the CAQM Sub-Committee implemented Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) schedule over the whole National Capital Region (NCR) in response to declining air quality.
