Drummer Sivamani along with other musicians pay musical tribute to Ustad Zakir Hussain at his funeral
Virtuoso on the tabla On Friday, Ustad Zakir Hussain, who was instrumental in introducing Indian classical music to the world, was buried in San Francisco.
Many well-known musicians, as well as family and friends, attended his burial. At Ustad Zakir Hussain’s last rites, drummer Sivamani and a few other musicians performed a musical homage to him.
In honor of Zakir Hussain, Sivamani posted a few remarks on Instagram before to the burial rites. Remembering the symbol made him sad and unable to control his emotions.
Huge crowds of fans also came to honor the renowned artist with last tributes.

K Srikar Reddy, the Consul General of India in San Francisco, paid respects by hanging the Indian national flag over Ustad Zakir Hussain’s mortal remains on behalf of the Indian government and people.
Reddy read aloud the sympathy message that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had posted on X and gave his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and his family his sympathies.
“On behalf of the Government and people of India, Consul General Dr. K. Srikar Reddy paid tribute by draping the mortal remains of the Ustad Zakir Hussain with the Indian national flag, offered condolences to his wife Ms. Antonia Minnecola and his family members, and read out the condolence message [tweet] of Hon’ble PM,” the Consulate General of India in San Francisco wrote in a post on X.
His family, friends, artists [Sivamani and others], music enthusiasts, and diaspora members were among the approximately 300 people who paid their last respects.
The renowned tabla musician Alla Rakha’s son, Zakir Hussain, combined customs with international inspirations to produce works of art that cut over linguistic and cultural boundaries. On December 15, he departed for his celestial home, but his tabla rhythms will linger on in his admirers’ hearts and thoughts forever.
According to a statement from his family, Ustad Hussain passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.The illness known as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) results in lung scarring. Breathing becomes more difficult as a result of this scarring.
His daughters Anisa and Isabella Qureshi, as well as his wife Antonia Minnecola, survive him.
