DK Shivakumar: Government will re-issue Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards to eligible families
Speaking to Media on Wednesday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that if eligible households’ Below Powerty Line (BPL) cards had been mistakenly canceled, the government will reinstate them.
The people was reassured by the Deputy Chief Minister that there was nothing to worry about.
“Our government is operating in accordance with the guidelines that the Center has set for BPL households. New cards will be supplied to eligible families whose BPL cards have been inadvertently canceled. We will address the disparities that exist in some regions. “A review to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries is in progress,” he said.
Shivakumar said that remedial mechanisms will be put in place to fix the mistakes when questioned why no physical verification was done during the cancelation process, as is done when issuing new cards.
“The responsible ministry has received instructions from the chief minister. Each MLA will review the list of revoked BPL cards that we are emailing them. Visiting families and fixing any mistakes in BPL card cancellation would be the responsibility of the Guarantee Implementation Committee,” he said.
Shivakumar emphasized that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s journey to Delhi had nothing to do with politics and was only connected to the introduction of Nandini milk in the capital.
“The Chief Minister is visiting Delhi to attend the capital’s Nandini Milk launch. I was supposed to go as well, but I’m going to Murdeshwar to celebrate Fishermen’s Day instead. Farmers will gain from the Nandini brand’s expansion. “The visit is not political; it is only developmental,” he said.
In response to the Left parties’ objections over the encounter of Naxal leader Vikram Gowda, Shivakumar said that the Home Minister will address the matter.
