Several current and past Shiv Sena MPs, MLAs, and Mumbai-based corporators attended the meeting on Thursday at the home of party leader Deepak Kesarkar.

The dates for the BMC elections, which are anticipated to take place in early 2025, have not yet been announced by the Election Commission.

After the meeting, Shinde told reporters that the party’s goal is to create the “Mumbai that all Mumbaikars dream of.”

“Today’s meeting was about the Mumbai Mahapalika Elections… The direct benefit of all the work done by our government in the last 2.5 years will be received by the people of the state,” stated Deputy Chief Minister Shinde.

It was a really significant encounter. In preparation for these elections, Mahayuti is ready. The DyCM went on, “We will create the Mumbai that every Mumbaikar has always imagined.”

2017 was the final BMC election, which was supposed to happen again in 2023 but was postponed for a number of reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Bhushan Gagrani is now the municipal commissioner assigned by the state government to oversee BMC’s operations. For the time being, the mayor’s and deputy mayor’s positions are vacant.

With 84 seats, the unified Shiv Sena is the single biggest party in the current BMC, which has 227 constituencies. The Congress and NCP-SP have 31 and 7 seats, respectively, while the Bharatiya Janata Party has 82.

With the Shiv Sena as an ally, the BJP hopes to take over the Municipal Corporation after the recently ended assembly elections. For the last 20 years, the Shiv Sena (UBT), headed by Uddhav Thackeray, has controlled the BMC.
