Delhi witnessed significant drop in temperature, inclement weather conditions prevail
New Delhi: As cold wave conditions and bad weather swept over the city on Thursday, Delhi saw a sharp dip in temperature.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that at 5:30 am on Thursday, the temperature in Delhi was 6.4 degrees Celsius.
According to the MeT Department, the day’s lowest temperature will be 5 degrees Celsius, and its highest temperature will likely be about 21 degrees.
The temperature at 5:30 am was between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius, which is lower than it has been in recent days.
Despite the IMD’s prediction of “dense fog” for the city on Thursday, conflicting images have surfaced from various locations across the city.
A large number of homeless people sought shelter in night shelters while the cold wave persisted. All of the beds at a night shelter on Lodhi Road were full.
To provide homeless people with shelter, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents. Additionally, night shelters have been erected in the national capital at a number of places, such as AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and the Nizamuddin flyover.
In the meantime, but not by much, the national capital’s air quality declined to bad. According to statistics from the Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 299 at 7 a.m.
A score of zero to fifty is regarded as “good,” 51 to 100 as “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 as “moderate,” 201 to 300 as “poor,” 301 to 400 as “very poor,” and 401 to 500 as “severe.”
Following a notable improvement in the air quality index (AQI), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) annulled the Stage-III steps under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR on Sunday.
However, authorities said on Sunday that Stage I and Stage II precautions would continue to be in place.
Following an assessment of the air quality data and the IMD/IITM projections, the Sub-Committee on GRAP made the decision after seeing a decreasing trend in AQI readings.
