Delhi Police registered FIR against AAP leader Amanatullah Khan for violating Model Code of Conduct
New Delhi: Amanatullah Khan, a candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party, has been charged by the Delhi Police for breaking the Model Code of Conduct.
Following the release of a video purporting to show the AAP leader and his followers wandering about his Okhla constituency after the campaign was over, the police took action.
On X, the DCP South East Delhi stated, “In this matter, FIR No 95/25 under section 223/3/5 BNS & 126 RP Act against Amanatullah has been registered at Police Station Jamia Nagar for violating MCC.”
In the meanwhile, people cast votes for the 8th Assembly under strict security as voting for 70 assembly seats started Wednesday morning in Delhi. According to authorities, voting will start at 7:00 am and go until 6:00 pm.
Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, made some grave accusations against the Delhi Police and the Election Commission of India (ECI) earlier on Tuesday, saying that their conduct amounted to condoning rioting against the AAP and shielding the BJP’s malfeasance.
This came about as a result of Delhi Police accusing Atishi of breaking the Model Code of Conduct.
Kejriwal expressed his indignation on social media, saying that the Delhi Police and the ECI are conspiring to sabotage the election process and benefit the BJP. He said that their main goals are to give money and alcohol, indulge in hooliganism, and safeguard the BJP’s interests.
The AAP candidate, Atishi, was discovered to have violated the MCC on Tuesday while accompanied by 50–70 people and 10 cars, according to the South East Delhi DCP.
“AAP candidate from Kalkaji (AC-51) was discovered at Fateh Singh Marg on February 4 around 12:30 am with 50–70 persons and 10 cars. They were told to leave by the police because of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). A case under section 223 BNS & 126 RP Act has been filed at Police Station Govindpuri in response to a complaint from FST,” the DCP said.
In a different post on X, the DCP South East Delhi said that Ashmit and Sagar Mehta, both members of the AAP, had attacked and hindered a head constable.
“A meeting was reported at Baba Fateh Singh Marg in Govindpuri on 04/02/25 at 00:59 hrs. HC Kaushal Pal answered and started filming. “He was obstructed and assaulted by AAP members Ashmit and Sagar Mehta,” the statement said.
“FIR No. 106/25 is filed at 0S Govindpuri under section 221/132/121(1)/3(5) BNS for assault while on duty and obstructing the performance of public duty. “More research is underway,” the DCP said.
