Delhi Police launches search operation to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators
New Delhi: As part of an ongoing inquiry into Bangladeshi infiltration, Delhi Police carried out search operations in slum areas around the nation’s capital on Wednesday.
West Delhi DCP Vichitra Veer told the media that the search operations were carried out at night to make it easier to inspect people since family members often stay at home after work.
“People go to work during the day, which is why the ad is being run at night. Verification is facilitated by the fact that all family members are present at home at night. Ten Bangladeshis from West Delhi have already been deported, and other districts are following suit,” DCP Vichitra Veer said.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration in Delhi has been under fire from the BJP, which claims that it is giving voter ID cards and Aadhaar cards to immigrants from Bangladesh and the Rohingya in order to increase its vote share.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of Delhi expressed alarm on Monday over the increasing criminal activity of Rohingya and undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants.
His remarks came after a recent incident in Mumbai when actor Saif Ali Khan was assaulted and a Bangladeshi national was taken into custody.
Saxena responded by giving the Delhi Police Commissioner instructions to launch a special operation to find and detain these illegal immigrants.
“The Lieutenant Governor has ordered that a special campaign be launched to identify such infiltrators on a mission mode,” the Delhi L-G Secretariat said in a letter dated January 20. To raise public knowledge of the value of confirming workers, including construction laborers, domestic helpers, and employees for their own safety, an outreach campaign might be started using print and social media.
Notably, in December of last year, Delhi LG VK Saxena ordered the Delhi Police Commissioner and Chief Secretary to conduct a special campaign over the next two months to find and apprehend “illegal immigrants from Bangladesh” who were living in Delhi.
