Delhi government imposed ban on firecrackers to tackle air pollution
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Monday placed an immediate ban on the manufacturing, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers across the city, effective till January 1, in anticipation of an increase in pollution levels as winter approaches.
The declaration was made by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, who also asked the citizens of Delhi to support government efforts to reduce air pollution.
“A ban has been imposed on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers from today till January 1 due to the increasing pollution in winter,” tweeted Rai. “We ask for all Delhiites’ cooperation in implementing the ban, as instructed by the Delhi government,” he said.
To make sure the prohibition is applied correctly, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee has released comprehensive guidelines.
In order to combat the growing pollution levels that deteriorate in the winter due to stubble burning, reduced wind speeds, and other seasonal variables, the ban is in place for all types of firecrackers, including those that are sold online.
The instruction states that the Delhi Police is in charge of implementing the prohibition, and that they must submit daily activity reports to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Additionally, authorities have issued a warning, threatening severe consequences for anybody who disobeys the directive.
