Delhi Chief Minister Atishi condoles the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away, and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi sent his condolences. Atishi expressed sorrow, saying that the nation had lost not just a distinguished economist but also a leader whose wisdom and honor will live on forever.

“The nation has lost not just a globally recognized economist but also a statesman whose knowledge and honor will endure forever with the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Sincerest sympathies to his loved ones and family. “May God grant them fortitude during this trying time,” Atishi wrote on X.

CM Atishi has canceled all of her official events planned for Friday, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement. The loss of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also mourned by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. Singh was described as a visionary leader by LG, who called his life a “journey of aspirational India.”

“My deepest condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji,” LG said in a social media post on X. He was an aspiring leader who emerged from the ranks of the ordinary and lowly Indian populace. He and his family are in my prayers and thoughts at this time of unfathomable loss and suffering.”

At the age of 92, Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at AIIMS, Delhi, from age-related illnesses. He was sent to the AIIMS Delhi after experiencing an unexpected loss of consciousness at home.

Leaders of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other political figures expressed their condolences for Manmohan Singh’s passing.

Former Manmohan Singh would be remembered for his service to the country, according to President Murmu, who also said that he made significant contributions to the reform of the Indian economy.

“Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji was one of those rare politicians who also straddled the worlds of academia and administration with equal ease,” Murmu said in a sympathy post on X. He significantly aided in the transformation of the Indian economy in his many positions in public administration. His commitment to the country, his impeccable political career, and his deepest humility will live on in his memory forever. We all feel a deep sorrow over his demise.

“I pay my respectful homage to one of the greatest sons of Bharat and convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and admirers,” said the president.

In an X post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India laments the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, one of its most illustrious leaders. He became a renowned economist after rising from modest beginnings. Over the years, he left a lasting impression on our economic policy while holding a number of government posts, including finance minister. His parliamentary contributions were also enlightening. He worked hard to make people’s lives better while serving as our prime minister.

After 33 years of service, Dr. Manmohan Singh departed from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. He was born in Punjab in 1932 and was India’s prime minister for two terms, from 2004 to 2014. He first assumed power after the Congress Party’s victory against the NDA, headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi replaced him in 2014 after he completed a second term in office from 2009 to 2014.
