Counter-Intelligence Kashmir detains five suspects for smuggling SIM cards
Srinagar: Five suspects were arrested by Counter-Intelligence Kashmir on Tuesday on charges of “transporting” and “smuggling SIM cards to terrorists lodged in different jails,” according to police.
A statement states that as part of the investigation of case FIR No. 06/2023 u/s 153-A, 505, 121 & 120-B IPC r/w 13 & 39 UA (P) Act of Police Station CI-K, five people were arrested today, February 4, 2025, for questioning and interrogation regarding their involvement in a criminal conspiracy with anti-national elements to obtain, transport, or smuggle SIM cards into the Central Jail premises for use by the inmates, including those engaged in terrorism and narco-terrorism.
The fact that P/S CIK had previously conducted searches on the grounds of Central Jail and discovered that these suspects, working with some of the detainees, had obtained and brought SIM cards into the jail for use in a number of terror-related acts is worth mentioning.
According to the announcement, further arrests are anticipated as the involvement of PoS/vendors of various Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) that provided these SIM cards is being investigated.
According to the announcement, the suspects in custody are from Kursu Padshahibagh, Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa, and Bandipora.
