Congress won both the Lok Sabha seats of Wayanad in Kerala and Nanded in Maharashtra

The results of by-elections for 48 assembly seats in 13 states were announced by the Election Commission of India on Saturday. The BJP and its allies secured the majority of seats, while the Congress took home the Lok Sabha seats of Wayanad in Kerala and Nanded in Maharashtra.

The BJP and its supporters took the most seats in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh among the assembly by-elections. While the Congress only won seven seats, including all three Karnataka assembly seats, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) also took home all six seats in West Bengal.

In the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election in Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was running for office for the first time, won a landslide win.
The Election Commission reports that Priyanka Gandhi defeated Navya Haridas of the BJP and Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI to win the Wayanad by-election by 4,10,931 votes. Navya Haridas received 1,09,938 votes, while she received 6,22,338.

After this victory, Priyanka Gandhi will join her brother Rahul Gandhi, who serves in the Lok Sabha representing the Rae Bareli seat, and her mother Sonia Gandhi, a member of the Rajasthani Rajya Sabha.

Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi has expressed gratitude to voters for granting her “the honor to represent them” after her victory in the Lok Sabha by-election for Kerala’s Wayanad district.

“I am grateful to the people of Wayanad for allowing me to serve as their representative. It is evidence of my brother’s hard work, their affection for him, and their faith in me. Priyanka Gandhi told reporters, “I think it’s a great honor and I will respect it fully.”

The Congress won the Nanded Lok Sabha by-election in Maharashtra. However, the BJP and Shiv Sena unexpectedly defeated the party in all six assembly seats in the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency.

After a recount, Congressman Ravindra Chavan defeated Santukrao Hambarde of the BJP by 1,457 votes.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party managed to get just two of nine seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won six assembly by-elections and its partner, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RJD), secured one seat.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised party leaders and workers on Saturday after the landslide victory in the UP by-elections, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership deserves the credit for the “historic win.”

“The results of the 2024 Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections, as well as the by-election results, were announced today.We won thanks to PM Modi’s leadership and vision. The populace has shown faith in PM Modi’s programs and vision.Speaking at a news conference in Lucknow, CM Yogi congratulated all of the victorious candidates.

The Trinamool Congress, which is in power in West Bengal, won all six assembly seats in a landslide victory.

While Kuldeep Singh Dhillon of the Congress won in Barnala, the Aam Aadmi party won three assembly by-elections in Punjab.
Arvind Kejriwal, national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, and Bhagwant Mann, chief minister of Punjab, thanked the Punjabi people.

The BJP won three seats in Assam, while its partners, the Liberals, the Asom Gana Parishad, and the United Peoples Party, each secured one seat.
The Congress and the Bharat Adivasi party each took home one seat, while the BJP took home five of Rajasthan’s seven assembly seats.

In Karnataka, the Congress won all three assembly seats. On Saturday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he has found this by-election to be very important.

“This by-election outcome was significant to me for a second reason beyond all others. Leaders of the BJP and JDS have been attempting to damage my reputation and level unfounded accusations against me and our administration ever since I was appointed Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah wrote on X, “Both of these parties have conspired and used everything from the Central Bureau of Investigation to the Raj Bhavan to create a scandal and try to frame me and my family.”

In a similar vein, the BJP won two seats in Bihar, while its partners, the secular Hindustani Awam Morcha and the United Janata Dal, each secured one seat.

Kerala saw one seat each for the Indian National Congress and the Community Party of India (Marxist), whereas Madhya Pradesh saw one seat each for the Congress and the BJP.

In a similar vein, the National Peoples’ Party secured the one seat in Meghalaya, while the BJP secured the sole assembly seat in each of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand.

The Sikkim Kranti Morcha won both assembly seats in Sikkim without any opposition.

In 15 states, 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats were up for grabs in the by-elections.
