“The Manipur issue has often been brought up by the opposition. Our pressure has been effective somewhere. The unfortunate issue is that the BJP is only playing musical chairs with chief ministers; they have no plans to restore peace in Manipur. They replaced the Chief Minister because they lacked the necessary numbers for the vote of no confidence. We want the state to be at peace again. We would like the Prime Minister to step in on this matter,” he said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP, had earlier said that the chief minister of Manipur should quit immediately since the state has been experiencing violence for more than two years.
“It was past due. In Manipur, this has persisted for more than two years,” Priyanka said.
Kirti Azad, a member of the Trinamool Congress, also criticized the BJP, stating that the party will be held accountable for the horrors that had occurred in Manipur.
“Given the ethnic violence that occurred two years ago, the resignation ought to have been made,” Azad said. Women and children were subjected to atrocities. It is rather disheartening that the central government is incapable of managing governments. The general populace is so furious that it is indescribable. The BJP will be held accountable for the horrors that have occurred in Manipur.
Nearly two years after violence broke out in the state, Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Sunday at Raj Bhawan. At least 19 MLAs, BJP president A. Sharda, and Sambit Patra, the party’s in-charge of North East Manipur, were with Singh.
Following a demonstration by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) in reaction to a Manipur High Court judgment ordering the state to take the Meitei community’s inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes list into consideration, violence broke out between the Kuki and Meitei tribes in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
