Congress leader KC Venugopal attacked Yogi Adityanath government over the violence in Sambhal
Sambhal: Congressman KC Venugopal accused the Yogi Adityanath administration of a “conspiracy to polarise society and escalate tensions” in response to the violence in Sambhal on Monday. He called for an investigation into the violence overseen by the Supreme Court.
“The rioting and bloodshed in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, indicate a blatant plot by the Modi-Yogi ‘double-engine government’ to divide the populace. In a post on X, Venugopal said, “The hurried manner in which the so-called survey was…conducted reveals a deeper conspiracy to create instability and fear among the people of the region.”
“Several accounts from the ground indicate that the cops killed people by purposefully taking the situation to this level. This demonstrates the state’s blatant involvement in the riot, and an impartial investigation overseen by the Supreme Court is urgently needed to restore peace and provide justice to the victims of the mob violence,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav, the party president, and other Samajwadi Party MPs met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday to discuss the Sambhal incident.
Members of the opposition were eager to bring up the matter in the House and have criticized the Yogi Adityanath administration for the violence.
Prior to this, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that party MP Zia-ur-Rahman Barq had been charged despite not being in Sambhal.
“An FIR was filed against our MP even though he was not in Sambhal at the time of the occurrence. Knowledge of the young individuals who have died in this situation is really regrettable. We know it was a government riot based on all the footage we have. He said that the government was rioting in Sambhal, stealing votes, and tampering with the EVM machines.
Akhilesh Yadav questioned the state administration and said that the court had made the decision without even hearing the opposing viewpoint.
Yadav called for the responsible police officers to be held accountable.
When an ASI team came to the Shahi Jama Masjid on Sunday to do a new survey of the mosque, there was a stone-pelting incident in Sambhal, according to authorities.
Senior counsel Vishnu Shankar Jain filed a petition claiming the mosque was once a temple, and the survey was part of the legal procedure that followed.
