“All I can say is that Dr. Manmohan Singh was an excellent leader who made significant contributions to our nation. Congress has a very poor mindset, as seen by their recent political actions. “It is in the public domain that Rahul Gandhi insulted Pranab Mukherjee ji when he was Prime Minister, and the same Congress party did the same to him,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa told reporters today.

“The Congress party has no issue… Congress has started politics in this too…” he said.

The chief minister of Assam paid a visit to the Narayani Shila Temple in Haridwar on Sunday and offered prayers there.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah told Congress President Kharge and the family of the late Singh that the government will set aside space for a monument after Friday’s Cabinet meeting. Cremation and other procedures were to be carried out in the meantime while a trust was established and space was set up for the monument.

At the Nigam Bodh Ghat, a public cremation site in north Delhi, Manmohan Singh had a state burial on Saturday, complete with military honors.

Congress had insisted that the burial be held in a site suitable for the construction of a monument. In the coming days, the Center said, property will be set aside for the monument.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge recommended that Singh’s cremation be held in a site appropriate for a memorial service in order to honor his legacy. At the age of 92, Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at AIIMS, Delhi, from age-related illnesses. He was sent to the hospital after experiencing an unexpected loss of consciousness at home.
