Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit criticized AAP, saying the party is ‘highly corrupt’
New Delhi: The Congress candidate for the assembly seat in New Delhi in the next assembly elections, Sandeep Dikshit, attacked the Aam Aadmi Party, calling it “corrupt beyond measure.”
Congress unveiled its first slate of 21 candidates for the assembly elections on Thursday. In the previous three assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal, a former chief minister and AAP convener, has won the seat.
“I thank the party for giving me this opportunity, and the thing is that for the past 10 years, whenever they (AAP) have ignored their promises, betrayed Delhi, or committed corruption, I have raised objections to that,” Sandeep Dikshit said to the media.
“One can remember that even 7-8 years ago I had told that whenever the corruption done by this government comes out, then people will be shocked at how corrupt a government can be,” he stated.
He said that his previous accusations against the AAP’s leaders had also turned out to be accurate.
“With time, many of the things I used to say have come out to be true, and this is a chance to tell the people of Delhi about the type of Chief Minister they have chosen,” Dikshit said.
Dikshit was alluding to the accusations made against many AAP leaders in the excise policy issue. Most famously, the national convenor of the party and former chief minister was imprisoned in connection with the excise policy issue. At the moment, Kejriwal is free on bail.
In connection with the excise policy issue, party leader Manish Sisodia was also detained and later freed on bail.
The Congress leader went on to stress the significance of the election, stating that it would provide the party an opportunity to demonstrate the kind of chief minister that Delhi elects.
“This, in my opinion, will involve more than merely choosing a representative. In Delhi or any other state, the election also concerns whether a CM of such kind ought to hold office twice or even three times,” he said.
The Congress list states that Devender Yadav, the party’s Delhi president, is from Badli, Abhishek Dutt is from Kasturba Nagar, and Ragini Nayak is from Wazirpur.
Party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, KC Venugopal, the party’s general secretary (Organization), Devender Yadav, and other officials attended the party’s Central Election Committee meeting, which was held at AICC headquarters.
The Delhi Assembly election is anticipated to be held in early 2025, while the dates have not yet been set by the Indian Election Commission. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 62 of the 70 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections.
