Congress and SP MPs expressed concern over the ongoing farmers’ protest in Delhi
Concerns about the ongoing farmers’ protest in Delhi have been voiced by Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) members of parliament, who have called for a more humane response from the government and the prompt implementation of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other demands made by farmers.
According to Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, the administration has not done enough to address farmers’ complaints. Tiwari reiterated the long-standing need by farmer organizations for the government to guarantee MSP for crops in order to guarantee fair pricing for their production. “The demands of farmers should be fulfilled and MSP should be implemented,” Tiwari added.
Congress MP Amar Singh, meanwhile, emphasized the demonstration spearheaded by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a 20-day hunger strike known as “Amaran Anshan.”
Singh emphasized the need for a discussion to resolve the matter immediately, saying, “Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the farmer leader, has been sitting on ‘Amar Anshan’ for twenty days. The farmers don’t need permission to visit Delhi, thus a Union Minister should go speak with them. Singh said, stressing that the aspirations of the farmers must be met immediately.
Singh went on to say that all of the “demands of the farmers” had to be met, emphasizing that continuing to do nothing would only make their problems worse.
Ram Gopal Yadav, an SP MP, had earlier in the day also attacked the administration for not having a real conversation with the farmers. “This government is opposed to using discussion to settle any disputes. If necessary, it intends to employ tear gas, lathi, and even firearms. They should speak to people and utilize ‘boli’ instead of ‘goli,'” Yadav remarked, alluding to the harsh methods used in previous demonstrations.
In order to find a peaceful solution, Yadav advised the government to form a “delegation of 2-3 ministers” who could speak with farmer leaders directly.
“Fighting isn’t the answer. He said, “Why do farmers have to agitate repeatedly?”
