Cold wave continues in Delhi for the third consecutive day, maximum temperature 15 degree Celsius

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Delhi had its third day in a row of frigid weather. The India Meteorological Department reports that the lowest temperature was 7.4 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature was 15 degrees Celsius.

While the lowest temperature was within the typical range, the highest temperature was four degrees below average.

The highest recorded temperature in Safdarjung was 15 degrees Celsius, 4.3 degrees colder than average. A high temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius, or 2 degrees below average, was reported at the Palam weather station.

As temperatures continue to dip on New Year’s Day, some areas in North India are still feeling the effects of the winter cold.

To help the homeless, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has erected 235 pagoda tents. AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and the Nizamuddin flyover are among the locations in the national capital where night shelters have been erected.

Residents of the capital were spotted congregating around bonfires in reaction to the cold weather, and as the temperature continued to drop, some sought refuge in night houses.

In Rajasthan, the temperature has also become worse, making everyday living extremely difficult. According to the IMD, the temperature in Jaipur was 7.2 degrees Celsius at 8:30 am, while the temperatures in Bikaner and Churu were 7 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

As the temperature dropped in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, a blanket of fog covered the city. According to IMD, the temperature was 9 degrees Celsius in Meerut and 10 degrees Celsius in Lucknow.

The chilly weather continued in Jammu & Kashmir, with several places experiencing below-freezing temperatures. Dal Lake’s surface has remained frozen due to the chilly weather. IMD reports that at 8:30 am, the temperature in Srinagar was -1.5 degrees Celsius, while in Gulmarg it was -2.4 degrees, Pahalgam it was -6 degrees, Banihal it was 0.4 degrees, and Kupwara it was 0.4 degrees.

To celebrate the New Year, people from all across the nation gathered in great numbers at churches and temples, despite the bitter weather. Worshippers congregated at famous holy locations like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ayodhya, Haridwar, Mathura, Varanasi, Ajmer, Tirupati, and Guwahati. Morning prayers and ‘aarti’ were held at the renowned Pracheen Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place in Delhi, despite the bad weather, while similar events took place in the Jhandewalan temple.
