CM Yogi celebrated by bursting crackers outside the BJP office after the by-election results were announced
Following the announcement of the results of the by-elections to nine assembly seats in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rejoiced outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Saturday by popping crackers.
The Election Commission of India announced the results of by-elections for 48 assembly seats in 13 states on Saturday. The Congress won both Lok Sabha seats in Nanded, Maharashtra, and Wayanad, Kerala, while the BJP and its allies took the remainder of the seats.
The Samajwadi Party only managed to win two of the nine seats that were up for grabs in Uttar Pradesh, while the BJP won six assembly by-elections and its partner, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RJD), took home one seat.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised party leaders and workers on Saturday after the landslide victory in the UP by-elections, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership deserves the credit for the “historic win.”
“The results of the by-elections as well as the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections for 2024 were announced today. We won thanks to PM Modi’s leadership and vision. The populace has shown faith in PM Modi’s programs and vision. Speaking at a news conference in Lucknow, CM Yogi congratulated all of the victorious candidates.
The BJP and its supporters took the most seats in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh among the assembly by-elections. While the Congress only won seven seats, including all three Karnataka assembly seats, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) also took home all six seats in West Bengal.
In the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election in Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was running for office for the first time, won a landslide win.
The Election Commission reports that Priyanka Gandhi defeated Navya Haridas of the BJP and Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI to win the Wayanad by-election by 410,931 votes. Navya Haridas received 109,939 votes, while she received 622,338.
With this victory, Priyanka Gandhi will be able to join her brother Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Lok Sabha representative for Rae Bareli, and her mother Sonia Gandhi, a member of the Rajasthani Rajya Sabha.
The BJP won three seats in Assam, while its partners, the Asom Gana Parishad, Liberal, and United Peoples Party, each secured one seat.
The Congress and the Bharat Adivasi Party each won one seat in Rajasthan, while the BJP won five of the state’s seven legislative seats.
In a similar vein, the National People’s Party secured the one seat in Meghalaya, while the BJP secured the sole assembly seat in each of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand.
In 15 states, by-elections were conducted for two Lok Sabha seats and 48 assembly seats.
