CM Saha thanked the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) for offering a venue to expand business and investment prospects in the Northeast during his remarks at the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow in Colaba, Mumbai, on Monday.

The Chief Minister emphasized that highlighting business and investment potential in the area has been greatly aided by the transfer of the Ministry of DoNER.

“Due to historical reasons, this region has lagged in many aspects of development,” he said.

The Northeast has long been considered ‘Ashtalakshmi’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has placed a high priority on its development via the Act East Policy. With its distinct topography and socioeconomic environment, Tripura is situated at a juncture of opportunity and development. The most tranquil state in the nation and the Northeast is Tripura. Due to its enormous natural gas reserves, the state has an excess of electricity. The state’s development is still being propelled by Tripura’s economy, which is mostly dependent on agriculture and other sectors,” he said.

According to CM Saha, the state’s projected per capita income in 2024 would reach a record-breaking Rs 1.77 lakh, up from Rs 1.57 lakh in 2023.

As the state with the second-highest GSDP growth rate in the Northeast, Tripura’s GDP has expanded by 8.9%. We are doing all we can to foster an environment that encourages investors to take advantage of the state’s resources and capabilities. The state administration is expanding the scope of the state’s industrial and basic infrastructural development. Connectivity has been revolutionized by PM Modi’s HIRA plan, which focuses on highways, the Internet, railways, and aviation. After an improvement, the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport is now the second-busiest airport in the area, according to Saha.

He said that the South District of Sabroom now has a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) created by the state government, which has already drawn a lot of interest from investors.

Industries that use natural gas, rubber, bamboo, agar, agro-products, food processing, tea, handicrafts, and tourism have a lot of room to grow. In the North District, we have more than 5 million agar trees on 2,000 hectares. A rubber park has also been developed in Bodhjungnagar, and another is slated to be built in the South District,” he said.

According to him, Tripura has a thorough bamboo strategy in place and has 21 kinds of bamboo.

“The Queen Pineapple, which has been designated as the state fruit and given a GI designation, is one of the horticulture crops that Tripura is famous for. The tourist industry is expanding quickly and has a lot of promise. There is potential for a tourism circuit in the Northeast that may include neighboring nations. Tripura has started projects like e-offices and an e-Cabinet and is home to the nation’s third internet gateway,” Saha said.

Among those in attendance were Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
