Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to move resolution to nominate MLA Vijender Gupta as Assembly Speaker
New Delhi: Today marks the start of the first session of Delhi’s eighth legislative assembly. A resolution to designate Vijender Gupta, an MLA for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as Speaker of the House is scheduled to be moved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

The newly elected MLAs will take part in the oath-taking ceremony at 11:00 a.m., and the legislative assembly speaker will be chosen at 2:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely has been named the pro tem speaker by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
The Delhi Assembly bulletin states that the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) findings would be presented after Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena’s speech on February 25. The assembly will open the floor for a motion of gratitude over the LG’s speech later that day. The election of the Delhi Assembly’s deputy speaker will follow the debate of the motion of thanks, which is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM on February 26.
The Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) findings would be presented during the three-day assembly session, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday.
The Chief Minister said that the former administration will be held accountable for every cent and accused them of “misusing” the “hard-earned” money of the people.
“We remain true to the commitments we made for Delhi, and they will be fulfilled,” Gupta said.
“The most significant event is about to occur. During the first session, we agreed to place the CAG report on the House table. The former administration misappropriated the hard-earned money of the people. At a news conference, CM Gupta said, “They will have to answer for every penny in front of the people.”
On Thursday, Gupta took the oath of office as Chief Minister. The implementation of the Ayushman Bharat plan with a Rs 5 lakh top-up and the tabling of 14 outstanding CAG reports in the Assembly’s maiden session were the two main choices she made when chairing her cabinet’s first meeting a few hours later.
Atishi, the former chief minister, was chosen to serve as the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP). At an AAP MLA meeting, she was chosen as the LoP. At a news conference after the meeting, senior AAP leader Gopal Rai made the announcement.
After 27 years, the BJP took control of the nation’s capital after securing 48 of the 70 Assembly seats. For the first time, the AAP, which has had more than 60 members in the House for ten years, will be in the Opposition.
