Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that a good detention center will be built in Mumbai to keep illegal Bangladeshis
Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that as illegal Bangladeshi migrants could not be detained in prisons directly, a proper detention facility will be constructed in Mumbai.
“We have observed in recent years that drug cases, illegal entry cases, and illegal Bangladeshis are all foreign nationals and cannot be held directly in our jails,” CM Devendra Fadnavis said. BMC has provided us with land to construct prison camps because they must be housed there. However, the standards of detention camps are not met by that site. We have thus requested additional land from BMC. Thus, a quality detention facility would be constructed in Mumbai.
A Bangladeshi couple residing illegally in Kalyan was earlier detained by Thane police’s anti-human trafficking squad, authorities said on Friday.
The pair, Sabuj Sanowar Shaikh and Bishti Sabuj Sheikh, are accused by Thane police of unlawfully crossing the Indo-Bangladesh border. During a local police raid on Thursday, they were taken into custody.
According to officials, the Thane police’s crime department has charged the pair under many provisions of the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act.
According to the police, a charge has also been filed against Mustafa Munshi, the house’s owner, who let them use his residence even though he knew the husband and wife had entered India illegally.
