CBI filed supplementary chargesheet in court against 3 accused in Assam Ponzi scam case
In a statement released on Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that it has filed a supplemental chargesheet against Chabin Barman, Deepali Talukdar Barman, and Mukesh Aggarwal in one of the Assam Ponzi Scam cases before the Special CBI Court in Guwahati.
The press release claims that the chargesheet was submitted within ninety days after the three accused’s detention; they are now being held in judicial custody in relation to the case. The supplemental chargesheet also contains further evidence against Monalisha Das, the accused who has previously been charged.
The CBI said that the case was first filed on October 14 after the Assam government requested to take over the probe, which had been filed by the Assam police on August 21 of this year. The lawsuit was against Deepankar Barman, his close friend Monalisha Das, and seven or eight of the company’s workers who owned DB Stock Consultancy.
The defendants allegedly promised assured returns to a number of customers in order to get their money, and even provided Rs 100 stamp papers as evidence. Nevertheless, it was discovered that many consumers had not received their refunds over the previous three months due to inconsistent payments.
According to the statement, the complainant further claimed that he had deposited Rs 1 crore and that thousands of people had contributed hundreds of crores to the organization. However, the accused individuals allegedly took the money they had invested with them.
The CBI claims that the inquiry showed that DB Stock Consultancy has been taking deposits from the general public while making exorbitant fixed return promises. Five unregulated deposit schemes with greater yields were operated by the proprietorship and its principal employees. According to reports, Deepankar Barman’s proprietorship acquired about Rs 400 crore.
The inquiry further revealed that Monalisha Das, the chargesheeted accused, had conspired criminally with the other accused to cheat thousands of depositors by taking deposits under false pretenses of large returns and then failing to pay them.
During a promotional event at Gauhati Medical College, Chabin Barman, his wife Deepali Talukdar Barman, and son Deepankar Barman plotted to advertise DB Consultancy’s unregulated deposit program.
According to the announcement, Deepali Talukdar Barman, together with her family, took part in the promotion and operation of the unregulated deposit plan. She received the program’s revenues and used them to invest in real estate and other ventures for her own benefit.
Deepankar Barman and chartered accountant Mukesh Agarwal plotted to hide the scheme’s gains in the company’s financial records. According to the release, Mukesh Agarwal helped hide the proceeds from the unregulated deposit scheme by fabricating fake invoices, manipulating IT and GST returns for Deepankar Barman, adjusting illicit funds as loans in the firm’s books, and creating false financial documents on Deepankar’s orders.
The continuing investigation into Deepankar Barman and others is being advanced by the CBI.
