BSF Inspector General Ashwani Kumar Sharma took over as IG BSF Tripura

West Tripura: On Monday, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, the Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), assumed leadership of the BSF Tripura. Officers greeted IG BSF Sharma and presented him with a guard of honor upon his arrival at Tripura Frontier Headquarters.

“On December 16, 2024, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, IG, BSF, took over as Inspector General of BSF Tripura. A guard of honor was bestowed upon him. BSF Tripura said on X that he honored the fallen, spoke with personnel, and examined the current security situation over the Tripura border.

Sharma was a BSF officer from the 1987 batch who had previously worked at the Indore BSF Training Center. His expertise encompasses counterinsurgency and anti-Naxal operations, and he has a wealth of experience in both Eastern and Western Commands. He has also had deputations with the United Nations Mission and the National Security Guard (NSG). Notably, according to an official statement, he has previously worked in Tripura.

He spoke about the present security situation across the Tripura border with the Additional Director General of Police for Tripura during a courtesy call later that day.

“Today, on December 16, 2024, Sh Ashwani Kumar Sharma, IG, BSF, Tripura Frontier, paid a courtesy visit to Shri Anurag, IPS, Additional Director General of Police Tripura, & discussed the present security scenario across the Tripura Border,” BSF Tripura stated on X. (ANI) The BSF, with a force of almost 2.65 lakh personnel, is the world’s largest border-guarding force and always observes its Raising Day on December 1.

The only force in the country with a clearly defined function in both peacetime and warfare is the BSF, which is mandated to protect the borders between India and Bangladesh and Pakistan. In both war and peace situations, the force has effectively shown its abilities by completing all tasks given to it while maintaining peace and quiet along the border.
