BJP’s Harsh Malhotra targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government over the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’
New Delhi: Harsh Malhotra, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a union minister, mocked the Aam Aadmi Party administration on Friday for its “Mahila Samman Yojna” cash transfer program for women, calling it a “lie and deception.”
He attacked previous Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that the AAP administration should have implemented this program ten years ago and that the assembly elections are the only reason it is doing so now.
“Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, before the 2020 elections, claimed that they would bring Ayushman Bharat Yojna, which was also a deception; this is also a deception and lie,” Harsh Malhotra, Union Minister, told the media.
“When the AAP took office in 2015, Kejriwal ought to have taken this action ten years earlier. With elections coming up, he is now concerned about sisters (women),” the East Delhi Lok Sabha MP said.
The Delhi Cabinet approved the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana on Thursday, which would immediately transfer Rs 1,000 to every qualified woman over the age of 18, in anticipation of the February assembly election in Delhi. The Delhi government has officially announced that the plan would get an annual allocation of Rs 4,560 crore.
The cabinet memo states that the cash distribution program may be available to over 38 lakh women. The initiative needs a yearly budgetary commitment of Rs 4,560 crore to provide them Rs 1,000 each month.
Atishi had already made it clear, nevertheless, that the money transfer would not take place right now.
In reference to the election schedule, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “Elections will be announced in 10-15 days, so it is not possible to transfer money to the account right now.” This might cause a temporary delay in the process.
Additionally, Kejriwal had said that whenever the AAP takes power in Delhi, the monthly honorarium of Rs 1000 will be raised to Rs 2100.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said earlier in the day on Friday that notification of the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ was sent out a day ago and that the registration procedure for the program would begin within the next seven to ten days.
“Last night, this was communicated. Work on the registration procedure is currently in progress. We would try to ensure that the Mahila Samman Yojana registration process starts within the next seven to ten days,” Atishi said.
“This program is being started because the Delhi government is the only one that recognizes the suffering of women and recognizes that those who lack financial independence must beg men for money. This Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana is being started for that reason,” she said.
