Mazumdar also claimed that during the first five days of the Kolkata police probe, evidence was destroyed, jeopardizing the administration of justice.

“To disparage the family is dishonorable. I’ll visit their home and meet them because of this. Evidence was destroyed during the five days that the Kolkata police were looking into the case, which prevented the type of justice that ought to have been served, he claimed.

In the meanwhile, the victim’s parents in the RG Kar rape and murder case in Kolkata dropped their appeal to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, requesting a new probe into the crime.

A few days after the notorious event occurred, in August of last year, the highest court registered the suo motu case, in which the victim’s parents submitted the plea as an Intervention Application (IA).

The Court cautioned the senior counsel to exercise caution in her arguments after reviewing the points presented in the affidavit that was submitted before it. This is because Sanjoy Roy, the only accused in the case, has already been found guilty.

Given that the victim’s parents had submitted the first plea prior to the trial and conviction, the court recommended that Senior Advocate Karuna Nundy withdraw the plea and submit a new one.

In the RG Kar rape and murder case, Sanjoy Roy was found guilty and given a life sentence by a Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court on January 20 for the victim’s rape and murder.

There has been a commotion after the trial court’s ruling, particularly among medical professionals who are demanding that Roy be given the death sentence for his horrific deed. Concerns have also been expressed about the way the inquiry was carried out, leading to requests for a reexamination of the case.
