BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused AAP of targeting Election Commission
New Delhi: Shehzad Poonawalla, a BJP spokeswoman, said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was proactively attacking the Election Commission, comparing it to previous accusations made by the Congress and implying that both parties anticipated electoral setbacks in the next Delhi Assembly elections.
“AAP and Congress are like ‘Bade Miyan’ and ‘Chote Miyan.'” The AAP is bringing up the same accusations that the Congress made in Maharashtra and Haryana.Poonawalla told ANI on Sunday, “The Congress did it after losing elections, but since the AAP can see their impending defeat, they are targeting the Election Commission from now on.”
Poonawalla continued, “When inquired with, Sanjay Singh’s wife got to know that two people from their own family with whom they have some conflict tried to get her name cut (from the voters’ list)” in response to the accusations made by AAP MP Sanjay Singh.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh, meanwhile, had said that the BJP had made two attempts to have his wife Anita Singh’s name taken off the voter list.
“The BJP launched a campaign to remove voters’ names off the list. They believe that Sanjay Singh should be punished. In the New Delhi seat, where Arvind Kejriwal is the Member of Parliament, the BJP submitted an application to remove my wife Anita Singh’s name from the voter list twice, on December 24 and 26, Singh informed the media reportt.
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the AAP and a former chief minister of Delhi, accused the BJP of conducting “Operation Lotus” in the New Delhi constituency from December 15 in order to alter the electoral list by removing the names of voters.
Notably, Kejriwal has been the MLA for New Delhi since 2015 and represents the city.
“The BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ has been underway in my New Delhi assembly seat since December 15. They have submitted a request to add 7,500 votes and remove 5,000 votes over these 15 days. If you are influencing around 12% of the assembly’s total voters, why is it necessary to have elections? In the guise of the election, a kind of ‘game’ is being played,” Kejriwal told reporters.
Early in 2025 is when Delhi’s Assembly elections are anticipated to take place. In the 2020 assembly elections, the AAP took home 62 of the 70 seats, while the BJP took home eight.
