According to a news release, this occurred when he spoke at a function held at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in Meerut to introduce three new Pali language and Vipassana courses.

The Union Cabinet acknowledged Pali as a “Classical Language” on October 3, 2024, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, which Chugh praised for his efforts. In addition to restoring the language’s splendor, he said, this historic ruling represents India’s renewed spiritual ties to the teachings of Lord Buddha. “The Laughing Buddha is smiling again because of PM Modi’s vision,” Chugh stated, alluding to the decision.

Chugh further praised the Prime Minister for bringing the teachings of Lord Buddha to the world and emphasized India’s proud history as the home of Lord Buddha. He expressed gratitude to the vice chancellor and university administration for taking the initiative to provide students a chance to learn about the origins of India’s rich spiritual and cultural traditions.

Chugh urged students to take full advantage of this chance, highlighting how learning Pali and Vipassana may have a profoundly positive impact on the development of a society that is enlightened and peaceful.

“It is a very happy and historic occasion that Pali has been recognized as a classical language,” said Dr. Anirban Ganguly, chairman of the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, who was speaking at the event. “Pali is a civilizational link between India and the world, and it is our collective responsibility to preserve and uphold Pali.”

The Bhikhu Hundreds of students attended the ceremony, which was attended by Dr. Kachyan Shrman, Bhikhu Dr. Chandra, Vice Chancellor Major General G.K. Thapliyal, Dr. Hiro Hito, and other Buddhist luminaries.
