BJP leader R Ashoka attacks Belagavi city police commissioner in Karnataka state assembly
Belagavi: BJP leader and Karnataka State Assembly leader of the opposition R. Ashoka attacked the Belagavi City Police Commissioner, accusing him of torturing BJP senior leader and Legislative Council member CT Ravi, who was arrested by Khanapur police following the filing of a formal complaint against him for his remarks against state women and child welfare minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
“The police station has turned into a Congress party office,” R. Ashoka told the media. We have spent the previous four to five hours sitting here as elected officials. The acknowledgment is not coming from the police commissioner. CT Ravi was tortured by the police commissioner, and his head was bleeding. There is ‘goondaraj’ across Karnataka. Tomorrow, the BJP will demonstrate. I would want to inform the police officers that this government is temporary. Consider law and order.
Advocate Chetan for CT Ravi said, “We hurried to the Khanapur Police Station as soon as we got the news. For almost an hour, we were not allowed to enter the police station via the gate. Every accused person has the right to see his attorney while being held by the police or while being questioned. We were denied entry for one and a half hours in spite of this. Since his life was in danger, CT Ravi told us he wanted to file a formal complaint when we first met him. Although one complaint was written, the police had not yet filed a formal complaint. This is blatantly arrogant behavior. Tomorrow, BJP MLAs and MLCs will discuss the issue in the legislature.
He said that regardless of the government’s decision in any state, the police are supposed to remain impartial.
“While being forcibly removed by the police, CT Ravi sustained injuries. This is comparable to an emergency. Both the Karnataka Human Rights Commission and the National Human Rights Commission will receive our complaint,” he said.
He said that while a complaint had been written, the police had not filed a formal complaint.
“We informed the Commissioner of Police that if the offense is done beyond the police station’s jurisdiction, they may file a zero FIR. He said, “The Commissioner of Police was not prepared to register the same.”
“From the standpoint of law and order, we will not disclose the next location where CT Ravi is being taken,” said Lada Martin, the commissioner of police for Belagavi City.
Lakshmi Hebbalkar had earlier claimed that BJP MLC CT Ravi had used “obscene words” against her after the two had purportedly spoken together when the BJP MLC referred to Rahul Gandhi as a drug user.
Following the remark, Congress members of the Legislative Council complained to Chairman Basavaraj Horatti.
Meanwhile, the police removed CT Ravi from Suvarna Soudha and placed him under arrest after hearing Hebbalkar’s allegation.
Following the filing of a formal complaint on his claimed “derogatory remarks” against Karnataka Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, BJP MLC CT Ravi denied the allegations on Thursday, claiming they were unfounded.
“The Congress has a tendency to make unfounded accusations. “They are doing the same to me as they did to Home Minister Amit Shah,” CT Ravi said in an interview with the media.
Following Hebbalkar’s allegation, the FIR was sent to the Hirebagewadi Police Station in Belagavi.
