BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party
Devendra Fadnavis, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was overwhelmingly chosen on Wednesday to lead the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party.
At the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan here, the BJP convened a legislative party conference to choose its leader, who would likely become the state’s next chief minister.
Fadnavis was elected as the leader of the BJP by the core committee.
Fadnavis was officially nominated as the party’s legislative leader by Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar. “I nominate Devendra Saritatai Gangadharrao Fadnavis as the leader of the party’s legislative wing,” they said.
They all fought a historic election under Devendra Fadanvis’ leadership and secured a historic mandate for the Mahayuti coalition, according to state BJP chairman Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
“With PM Modi’s assistance, we are dedicated to elevating Maharashtra to the top spot. Since we ran for 149 seats and won 132—the most ever—we should thank the crores of Maharashtra residents. 41 and 57 seats were also gained by our allies. We will have 237 Mahayuti members in this Assembly since seven MLAs have also backed us,” Bawankule said.
Ashish Shelar, a BJP lawmaker, will serve as the party’s head whip in the interim.
Vijay Rupani and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the BJP’s Central Observers for the state, attended the meeting today.
To supervise the preparations for the December 5 oath-taking ceremony of the next Chief Minister, representatives of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP’s Mahayuti coalition traveled to Azad Maidan in Mumbai yesterday.
Following the Mahayuti alliance’s overwhelming win in the state assembly elections, the event will usher in the new Maharashtra administration.
A number of Yuti alliance politicians visited the sports field, including Sanjay Shirsat, Gulab Rao Patil, and BJP leader Girish Mahajan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a number of chief ministers, and prominent NDA politicians are anticipated to attend the event.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti coalition won a resounding victory with 235 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024. With 132 seats, the BJP became the single-largest party, marking a major turning point in the election. With 57 and 41 seats, respectively, the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party also saw significant increases.
