BJP issues show cause notice to Karnataka MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal

Bengaluru: Karnataka MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal received a show-cause notice from the Bharatiya Janata Party for his comments criticizing state-level party leadership.

“Your continuing tirade against the state-level party leadership and your defiance of party directives and making public pronouncements and stance in contravention of the party’s official stand on all matters of political and public importance has been reported in media as well as by different party forums,” the announcement read.

“It is also a matter of great concern that despite having been issued a show cause notice several times in the past and your assurances of good conduct, the acts of indiscipline continue unabated,” he said.
According to the party, the Central Disciplinary Committee gave your previous explanations a lenient treatment because of your seniority and length of service.

“As stated in Article XXV of the BJP Party Rules, ‘Breach of Discipline section (a) and (1), your false and concealed accusations against the party leaders, along with your disregard for the party’s official stance on issues of political and public importance, constitute a serious breach of party discipline. Please provide justification for why the party shouldn’t discipline you. Within ten days after receiving this notification, you must provide the undersigned with your reason,” the notice said.

A public awareness campaign on the Waqf Bill’s changes had already been suggested by MLA Yatnal. Nonetheless, a number of party officials voiced their opposition, advising Yatnal and others to forego planning a separate gathering.

For whatever reason, Basanagowda Patil Yatnal shouldn’t be permitted to run a campaign. The leadership should make sure Mr. Yatnal and his team cannot circumvent state president B.Y. Vijayendra, and party people should be persuaded of this,” former minister and BJP leader M.P. Renukacharya told media reports.

In December 2023, BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal threatened to reveal the “irregularities” if he were kicked out of the party, after claiming that 40,000 crores of rupees had been embezzled in the state during the first wave of Corona under the Yediyurappa administration.

“Wherever someone has plucked and created property, I will remove their name. In the first wave of Corona, BS Yediyurappa served as the Chief Minister. At that time, 40,000 crores of rupees were embezzled. Eight to ten lakh rupees were charged for every Corona patient. Basangouda Patil Yatnal, a BJP MLA from Vijayapur, said.

The BJP MLA further claimed that the Yediyurappa administration paid Rs 485 for a Rs 45 mask during the COVID-19 pandemic.
