Bihar: DEO orders CBSE board-affiliated private schools in Kishanganj district to teach Urdu

Kishanganj: At Bihar’s Kishanjganj district, District Education Office (DEO) Nasir Hussain has mandated that Urdu be taught at private schools connected to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board.

All private schools were notified in writing by the DEO to teach Urdu in the “minority-dominated district.”

DEO Hussain said that the district’s private schools need to make sure the required preparations are made so that pupils may learn Urdu. According to the directive, they have been requested to submit a compliance report to the Bihar Education Project Office.

“All the private schools in Kishanganj district, recognized by CBSE Board, are requested to ensure the necessary arrangements for the study of Urdu to the willing students and provide the relevant compliance report to Bihar Education Project Office, Kishanganj,” according to the order dated December 12, 2024.

This decision follows the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in October 2024, when Congress MLA Izharul Hussain and Congress MP Javed Azad pointed out that Urdu was not taught in the district’s private schools.

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) would look into the grievances made by applicants about the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), 2024, Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar said on Monday.

“They can say what they want; it is their right,” Kumar told reporters, adding that the Commission will look into the matter and make a suitable conclusion.

Students in Patna who are protesting are calling for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to cancel the December 13 Integrated Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024.

Bihar police deployed water cannons and lathi-charged the BPSC candidates who were protesting at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday.Following the event, 600–700 people—including Jan Suraaj Chief Prashant Kishor—were charged by Bihar Police with organizing unlawful meetings, inciting others, and causing law and order problems in Gandhi Maidan.
