In the course of enforcing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the 2025 assembly elections, Delhi Police’s Southern Range claimed to have surpassed prior records in terms of case registration and arrests earlier on February 2.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Southern Range, SK Jain, claims that throughout the last 24 hours, there have been more seizures and preventative measures than ever before, exceeding the standards established before the 2020 Assembly and 2024 Parliamentary elections.
In accordance with the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) orders, the Southern Range, which includes the South and Southeast districts, has stepped up measures to prevent illegal activity and preserve public safety since the MCC went into effect on January 7, 2025.
Over 59,062 quarters of alcohol have been seized as a consequence of the enforcement campaign, authorities said, and 193 cases and 203 arrests have been made—1.4 times more than during the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Likewise, under the NDPS Act, police have confiscated 50.1 kg of ganja, 1.5 kg of charas, and 0.7 kg of smack—a 1.86-fold increase over prior records.
Additionally, they have captured 152 cartridges and 73 weapons, a 3.5-fold increase over 2024. A new record of Rs 1.22 crore in cash has also been confiscated.
Under the BNSS/CrPC, more than 2,447 preventative measures were started in an effort to keep the peace. These activities resulted in 1,271 arrests and the deposit of 3,380 licensed firearms. Furthermore, 138 charges were filed in accordance with the 2007 Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property (DPDP) Act.
According to officials, 39 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been stationed across key locations to maintain order and discourage antisocial groups. These units have participated in Quick Response Team (QRT) operations, area dominance drills, and coordinated flag marches.
Increased vehicle and personal inspections at interstate crossings have prevented efforts to carry illegal alcohol, money, guns, and drugs.
According to them, 3,284 cars have been seized under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act and 3,905 people have been booked for public drinking under the Delhi Excise Act as a consequence of the 24-hour operation of Specialized Flying Squad Teams (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST).
Through the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, the Southern Range has prioritized voter awareness in addition to enforcement.
They said that initiatives to boost public trust and promote voting include Nukkad Nataks, Selfie Points, and interactions with the Resident Welfare Association (RWA).
