Assam Police seizes drugs worth Rs 1 crore and arrests one person in Cachar district
Cachar: According to authorities, police in the Cachar district of Assam conducted a significant raid during which they confiscated drugs valued at Rs 1 crore and detained one individual.
Based on confidential information, the Cachar district police on Sunday carried out a special operation against the illicit transit of narcotic substances at Digharkhal Toll Gate, which is within the jurisdiction of Kalain police station, according to Numal Mahatta, the district’s superintendent of police.
“One car with the registration number MZ-01Z-8256 was stopped during the operation while it was traveling from Guwahati to Aizawl. Two kilograms of suspected ganja and 72 cartons with 8640 bottles of codeine phosphate cough medication were found after a comprehensive investigation. As a result, both the car and the confiscated drugs were seized. In this regard, a 38-year-old resident of the Aizawl area named Joylaldan Thanga has been taken into custody. “The seized drug substance is valued at approximately Rs 1 crore on the illicit market,” she said.
The Assam chief minister, meanwhile, praised the Assam police’s effective operation.

In a late-night raid in Silchar earlier in December, the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) and the Cachar district police confiscated 125 grams of heroin and 60,000 Yaba pills.
Under the direction of STF Chief Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, a collaborative team carried out the operation on Silcoori Road. Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a native of Sonai in the Cachar district, was arrested by the team for allegedly using a motorbike to carry the drugs.
“Sahil Ahmed Laskar was caught trafficking drugs in the Sonai of Cachar district. Earlier, Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta said, “We found and confiscated 125 grams of heroin and 60,000 Yaba tablets from his possession.”
