Operations to eradicate poppy field cultivation have been carried out by the Assam Rifles on a regular basis.

In order to locate and eradicate illegal poppy production in Sehjang village, Kangpokpi district, the Assam Rifles conducted a combined search operation on February 12 in cooperation with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur Police.

In response to reliable information, two sizable poppy plants totaling around six acres and capable of producing 30 kg of opium were found and demolished after a thorough search.

Opium growers were severely harmed by the burning of nearby huts and temporary shelters.

The Assam Rifles are committed to upholding the peace and thwarting the illicit drug trade in the region, according to an official statement.

Earlier on December 14, Assam Rifles identified and destroyed 354 acres of illegal poppy farms in 2024, continuing its resolute campaign against the threat of poppy production along the Indo-Myanmar border. According to authorities, these activities mostly occurred in the districts of Chandel, Churachandpur, and Ukhrul.

In 2024, the Assam Rifles, under the command of HQ IGAR (South), reportedly persisted in their resolute efforts to combat the threat posed by poppy planting along the Indo-Myanmar border.

By destroying poppy farms and targeting the narco-trade’s origins, Assam Rifles has shown its dedication to maintaining peace and stability in Manipur and beyond.
