Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement in honor of Manmohan Singh

To commemorate the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Assam government has proclaimed seven days of state mourning.

As a sign of respect, the national flag will fly at half-mast in all government buildings during this time. The official programs have also all been canceled.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, made this statement at X.

The Assamese government will observe a seven-day state mourning period from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, in remembrance of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, the former prime minister of India. All state government buildings will display the national flag at half-mast during this time, and all official entertainment events will be canceled,” Sarma wrote on X.

To commemorate the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Himachal Pradesh government announced a two-day state holiday and a day of state mourning earlier today.

As a sign of respect, the national flag will fly at half-mast at all government buildings. In addition, to honor the passing of one of India’s finest politicians, the Winter Carnival celebrations in Shimla have been rescheduled for December 1.

In addition, a Congress Working Committee meeting honoring former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will take place today at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi.

According to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, the meeting will start at the AICC headquarters at 5:30 p.m. today.
“A Congress Working Committee meeting comprising of the CWC Members, Permanent & Special Invitees is being convened at 5.30pm today in AICC HQ to pay homage to the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji,” KC Venugopal wrote on X.

At his Delhi home, a number of politicians and dignitaries paid their last respects and conveyed their condolences to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

At the age of 92, Manmohan Singh died away on Thursday night at AIIMS, Delhi, from age-related illnesses. He was sent to the AIIMS Delhi after experiencing an unexpected loss of consciousness at home.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda, as well as Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and KC Venugopal, have paid their last respects to the deceased.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi will house the former prime minister’s mortal remains for public inspection. ‘Last darshan’ will take place on Saturday between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., according to Congress party sources.

Singh, who was famous for implementing the 1991 economic liberalization changes while serving as India’s Finance Minister, will be cremated close to Rajghat, where prime ministers’ last rites are conducted.

September 26, 1932, was Manmohan Singh’s birthday. In addition to being an economist, Manmohan Singh was the governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. After Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, he was the longest-standing prime minister of India, lasting from 2004 until 2014.

Singh, who served as India’s finance minister in the administration of PV Narasimha Rao, is credited with bringing about the nation’s economic liberalization in 1991. The reforms enhanced foreign direct investment (FDI) and decreased government control by opening up the Indian economy to global businesses. It made a significant contribution to the nation’s economic expansion.
