Annamalai criticises CM Stalin over alleged rape of mentally challenged college student
Tamil Nadu: After Chief Minister MK Stalin allegedly raped a mentally challenged college student in Chennai and “delayed” police action on the victim’s father’s allegation, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president K Annamalai took aim at Stalin on Sunday.
According to him, the BJP would urge the Deputy General of Police (DGP) to take action against the officer who caused the probe to be delayed.
He insisted that CM Stalin fire the police officers who were “delaying the investigation.”
“The BJP will ask the DGP tomorrow to seek action against the police officer who failed to act upon the victim’s father’s complaint in the Chintadripet rape case… The policeman admonished the victim’s father and requested he change the complaint. The state has an obligation to safeguard victims with disabilities. All of the police officers should be fired right now by the CM. In a news conference, Annamalai said, “I have always backed the police, but in this instance, it is unacceptable.”
The BJP spokesman said that two of the five suspects in this case have been taken into custody by the police, while the other three are still at large. According to Annamalai, this happened after the victim’s family was able to file the complaint. The accused had previously been discharged with a warning.
“It is upsetting to learn that a mentally challenged college student in Chennai’s Ayanavaram neighborhood was sexually attacked by a group of seven people. The student’s father complained about this at the Ayanavaram Police Station in Chennai, but the accused were just given a warning and discharged. The case has now been lodged, two accused have been apprehended, and five are evading justice thanks to the efforts of one of the student’s family. Following a report filed by the Chennai All-Women Police Station in relation to a rape case, two persons were taken into custody on Saturday, according to police, who also said that they were searching for at least seven further suspects.
According to a Chennai police officer, the victim had mental impairments and was enrolled at a private college in Chennai.
