A complaint has been filed against the American citizen, who was later taken into custody and is expected to appear in court today, according to Dehradun SP City Pramod Kumar.

“The satellite phone was confiscated yesterday as CISF checked passengers boarding a flight from Jolly Grant Airport to Delhi. The police and other relevant authorities are questioning the American citizen. Kumar informed the media.

Before heading to the airport, the accused allegedly stayed with a friend in Rishikesh after entering India on an e-tourist visa.

As soon as the satellite phone was seized during the security check, officials took prompt action. Due to possible security concerns, satellite phone ownership and use are strictly restricted in India, and illicit use carries severe penalties.

Police are presently questioning the person and are collaborating with other authorities to determine why the person was carrying the illegal gadget.

Investigators are looking into the potential of any malevolent intent and are trying to find out whether the accused knew about the rules governing satellite phones in India. Since satellite phones are often used for secure and untraceable communication, which may present threats to national security, the finding of such a device has sparked worries.

Officials are eager to make sure there are no links to any activity that can endanger public safety or contravene Indian law.
