All schools will remain closed in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu due to the possibility of heavy rains

Chennai: In preparation for Thursday’s expected severe rains, all schools in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu will remain closed. The districts of Chennai, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Thiruvarur, Ranipet, and Tiruvallur have all proclaimed holidays for their schools.

In the meantime, earlier this morning, rain pelted portions of Thoothukudi.

A yellow alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department for a number of Tamil Nadu districts.

A yellow signal for moderate rain and light thunderstorms was also issued by the IMD for the following locations: Vellore, Perambur, Salem, Namakkal, Sivaganga, Madurai, and Dindigul.

According to the weather department’s most recent report, Thoothkudi, Tenkasi, and Teni districts are probably going to have light showers.

A western disturbance over central Pakistan and its environs is predicted to produce light to isolated rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR during the next two days, according to the IMD earlier.

The IMD issued a new forecast on Sunday that called for a cold wave to hit most of Northern India starting on December 9.

West Rajasthan is predicted to experience cold wave conditions from December 9 to December 14, while Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh will begin to see cold wave conditions on December 11, according to an IMD announcement.

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions occur when the temperature significantly drops below the typical climatological values for a particular area.
