AIADMK accuses DMK government and police of “negligence” in alleged rape case

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) administration and police have been accused of “negligence” in the alleged rape case of a mentally challenged college student by Edappadi Palaniswami, general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

“It is upsetting to learn that a college student with a mental disability was sexually abused by over ten individuals in Chennai’s Chintadripet on many occasions. As usual, the DMK government’s police have been very careless and have disregarded the complainants, even though the victim’s father has previously brought the issue to the attention of the police station,” AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami wrote on X.

“Did the police of the MK Stalin government know that when a complaint is received about crimes against women, it should be taken seriously and investigated properly and promptly?” Palaniswami made a comment.
The general secretary of the AIADMK further said that the state government was treating charges against women in a “lax” way and that the DMK administration was not doing enough to provide a safe atmosphere for women.

“I strongly condemn the DMK government for not only creating a situation where women, school and college students, are constantly threatened but also for handling cases against women in a lax manner,” Palaniswami said.

Palaniswami, a senior AIADMK politician, asked Chief Minister MK Stalin and his administration to see to it that everyone implicated in this matter faces consequences.

“I urge MK Stalin and the DMK government to ensure that all the culprits involved in this case receive strict legal punishment, and to prevent these kinds of crimes against women, I urge them to conduct a serious investigation into such complaints without delay,” he said.

Following a report filed by the Chennai All-Women Police Station in relation to a rape case, two persons were taken into custody on Saturday, according to police, who also said that they were searching for at least seven further suspects.

The girl, who is intellectually challenged and attends a private college in Chennai, told her father about the event and named two people from the Tiruvallur district: Naresh and Suresh.
According to authorities, the two raped her repeatedly after taking her to a lodge on Chennai’s Wall Tax Road.

The victim’s father reported the incident to the Ayanavaram Police Station after learning about it. According to the preliminary inquiry, a common acquaintance who attended the victim’s college introduced her to the accused last year. A few others who became her friends on social media also raped her, according to the preliminary inquiry.
