AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj quotes Ramayana and says, ‘It doesn’t matter who sits on CM’s chair; people chose Kejriwal’

New Delhi: The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saurabh Bharadwaj, said today that Arvind Kejriwal should take the chair ahead of his resignation as chief minister of Delhi on Tuesday. In an interview with the media, Bharadwaj added that a member of his party will hold the position until the next Delhi elections. “It makes no difference who holds the chief ministerial position; Arvind Kejriwal was given the mandate. Arvind Kejriwal was selected by the people, Bharadwaj said.

“He has said that he would not hold the position of chief minister till the people ask him again, but Arvind Kejriwal is entitled to have it for the next five years. Until the next elections, one of us will remain in the chair. It would resemble the Ramayana’s depiction of Bharat’s dominion during Lord Ram’s absence. The name might be decided at the discussion with the MLAs that takes place today, he continued.

ARVIND KEJRIWAL WILL REGIGN TODAY

AAP MLAs will convene a critical meeting at Kejriwal’s home to choose his replacement, as he is anticipated to step down later on Tuesday. At 4:30 p.m., Kejriwal is probably going to see Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to submit his resignation.

On Sunday, the AAP national convenor announced his resignation within 48 hours after being freed on bail from Tihar Jail in the excise policy case. He also asked for early elections in Delhi. He promised that until he had a “certificate of honesty,” he would not take the chief ministerial seat.

The names of ministers from Delhi, Atishi, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, and Saurabh Bharadwaj are being circulated as potential candidates, according to party sources. They also said that Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, were likely competitors, according to news agency PTI.

THE MENTION OF RAMAYANA

During the exile of Lord Ram, Ayodhya was ruled by Bharat, the younger brother of the latter. Because of his love for his older brother, Bharat disobeyed his mother and refused to accept the kingdom in Ayodhya. Later on, however, Lord Ram informed him that his brother should succeed him while he was away fulfilling his father’s vow of exile.

When Bharat understood that Ram could not be convinced differently, he begged his half brother to give him his sandals. As an ascetic, he suggested placing Ram’s shoes on the throne of Ayodhya and ruling as a regent during Ram’s banishment.

Lord Ram accepted the plan, following which Bharat hoisted Ram’s sandals atop his head, traveling to Nandigrama, a hamlet on the outskirts of Ayodhya.

After setting the sandals on the throne in Ram’s place, Bharat became the regent of Kosala and ruled the kingdom from the hamlet for fourteen years.
