AAP leaders filed two police complaints against Delhi Assembly opposition leader Vijender Gupta
New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was the target of two police complaints filed by AAP leaders on Sunday, alleging that he had physically assaulted a female bus marshal outside the Lieutenant Governor’s residence and discriminated on caste.
According to a party statement, the attack happened on Saturday as a number of marshals and MLAs from the AAP and BJP were to the LG’s home to ask for his consent to reinstate the civil volunteers who were kicked out last year. The allegation was made in a report filed by Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.
The incident happened as a result of a FIR that Vijender Gupta filed against Saurabh Bharadwaj and three AAP MLAs for engaging in “indecent behavior,” which on Saturday resulted in a brawl outside LG VK Saxena’s home and inside the Secretariat.
An AAP statement claims that Saurabh Bharadwaj was informed by a female bus marshal named Pankaj that Vijender Gupta had allegedly kicked her.
According to the statement, Vijender Gupta was the target of a separate complaint against Vikhi Birla, the deputy speaker of the Delhi Assembly, who claimed caste-based harassment.
Since yesterday, we haven’t been able to contact the two female bus marshals. Vijender Gupta kicked one, while a policeman struck another. We have officially filed a report because we are concerned for their safety,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said.
He said that Vijender Gupta had fabricated allegations against AAP MLAs and bus marshals by abusing police equipment.
“Vijender Gupta is no longer hidden. He is now attempting to falsely accuse innocent bus marshals and AAP officials of desperation. According to Saurabh Bharadwaj, “the BJP MLA and the LG’s office are abusing the police to stop the volunteers from demanding their rights.”
According to the statement, the incident took place when bus marshals questioned Vijender Gupta about the cabinet note that Saxena had been given after he left the LG house.
AAP lawmakers and Chief Minister Atishi were escorted to the LG house by BJP MLAs in order to present a cabinet note for the reinstatement of bus marshals.
