The children will be compensated for the Rs 2 lakh punishment imposed by the Pathanamthitta Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursday.

The decision was issued by Judge GP Jayakrishnan, who also imposed a Rs. 2,000,000 punishment. The children must get this sum; if not, the criminal faces an extra two years in jail.

Additionally, he was fined Rs. 500 and given a one-month jail term for creating unjust obstruction. The ruling further specifies that if the fine is not paid, a warrant will be issued to seize it from the defendant’s property.

An altercation broke out between them on December 28, 2014, when Reena got a phone call.

Another disagreement broke out in the middle of the night, but the ward member stepped in and settled the issue. This dispute led to his beating Reena. The young woman’s face and head were seriously injured. While undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital, Reena died away in the morning.

After completing the investigation under the supervision of then-police inspector T. Rajappan, the Ranni police, who had first lodged the case, filed a charge sheet with the court on March 17, 2015. The court determined that the murder and kidnapping allegations were proved after the trial.

The accused was later declared guilty by the court. Witnesses included Reena’s mother and two children. Later, the mother died.

The court accepted the circumstantial evidence and the children’s testimonies at face value. Thirteen items and twenty-five witnesses were questioned in court. Advocate Harishankar Prasad, an additional public prosecutor, represented the prosecution.
