The US president-elect said in his first message posted on Truth Social, “I just learned about President Jimmy Carter’s demise. Only those of us who have had the good fortune to hold the office of President can really comprehend the immense responsibility that comes with being the head of the greatest country in history.
“Jimmy’s struggles as president occurred at a critical period for our nation, and he made every effort to enhance the quality of life for all Americans. We all owe him a debt of appreciation for that. During this trying time, the Carter Family and their loved ones are in Melania’s and my thoughts and prayers. We want everyone to pray for them and keep them in their thoughts,” he said.

“At the age of 100, President Jimmy Carter passed away. Despite my significant philosophical and political disagreements with him, I came to see that he really loved and valued our nation and everything it stood for. I hold him in the greatest regard since he put a lot of effort into improving America. Naturally, we shall miss him a lot since he was a really nice guy. After leaving the White House, he also had a significant impact—much more than most presidents. Melania and I send our deepest sympathies to his amazing family,” Donald Trump said on X.
The Washington Post said that former US President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100 on Sunday (local time) at his Plains, Georgia, home, according to his son James E. Carter III.
Carter’s son acknowledged his death, but he did not say what caused it. Following many hospital stints, Carter made the decision to cease further medical treatment and receive hospice care for his last days at home, according to a February 2023 statement from the Carter Center.
He had undergone treatment for an aggressive kind of melanoma skin cancer in recent years, with tumors that had migrated to his brain and liver. According to The Washington Post, Carter was last seen with family and friends outside his house on October 1st, watching a flyover commemorating his 100th birthday.
During his life, Jimmy Carter had various roles. He served in the United States Navy, was a small-town peanut farmer, and served as Georgia’s governor from 1971 to 1975. He was the only Democrat elected president between the administrations of Lyndon B. Johnson and Bill Clinton and the only president from the Deep South since 1837.
As the 39th President of the United States, Carter is credited with securing the signature of the Camp David Accords, which resulted in an enduring peace deal between Israel and Egypt and the first major Israeli retreat from land taken during the 1967 Six-Day War.
For “his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development,” Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize in honor of his work, the Nobel Prize announcement said.
Carter also contributed to the passage of the treaties governing the Panama Canal, which gave Panama sovereignty over the vital canal and strengthened US relations with its neighbors in Latin America.
