Banu paid respect to Dr. Manmohan Singh by recalling a personal meeting she had with her late husband, the renowned actor Dilip Kumar.

Saira Banu shared an old picture of herself, Dilip Kumar, and Dr. Manmohan Singh on her Instagram account along with a poignant remark praising the former prime minister’s respectable demeanor and unparalleled humility.

Banu stated, “The stillness of loss speaks louder than words today,” and added, “Dr. Manmohan Singh is no longer with us. He was a statesman whose decency and dedication to public service marked an age. His legacy is inscribed in Indian history as a tribute to knowledge, fortitude, and faith in the potential of inclusive development.

In her heartfelt statement, Banu reminisced about a visit with Dr. Singh and described a memorable event.
“I still clearly remember a fortuitous meeting with Dr. Singh, Dilip Sahib, and Sultan Bhai. I was shocked to see the former prime minister himself, smiling warmly, walk over to greet Dilip Sahib as he got out of the automobile,” she said.

The seasoned actress went on to describe Dr. Singh’s kind offer to give Dilip Kumar his seat in person.
“As we saw in the photos, there was only a single chair seated around a little table when we later entered his room. Dr. Singh immediately moved aside, grabbed another chair, and presented it politely to Dilip Sahib. She stated, “This small gesture of respect, this quiet act, said volumes about the man.”

The homage to Saira Banu also included Dr. Singh’s timeless virtues of knowledge and humility.

“Today, as the nation mourns his passing, we mourn the loss of a reflection of humility, wisdom, and the finest of human manners,” she said. She continued, “May his soul rest in eternal peace.” From 2004 until 2014, Dr. Manmohan Singh was India’s prime minister for two terms before dying at the age of 92 from age-related illnesses.

He gained recognition in India and abroad for his leadership at pivotal times of economic changes and his calm hand in handling global issues.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Dr. Singh and acknowledged his significant contribution to the development of India.

“India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji,” PM Modi said in a condolence message on X (previously Twitter). He became a renowned economist after rising from modest beginnings. Over the years, he left a lasting impression on our economic policy while holding a number of government posts, including Finance Minister.

PM Modi also recalled how closely he and Dr. Singh worked together, particularly when they were Gujarat’s prime minister and chief minister.

“When I was Gujarat’s chief minister and Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji was its prime minister, we had frequent interactions. We would discuss a wide range of governance-related topics in-depth. He continued, “His humility and wisdom were always evident.”

India’s political and economic environment is still influenced by Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy, especially his contribution to economic liberalization and significant changes throughout his term.

In 2014, Narendra Modi replaced him after the general election loss of the Congress-led UPA.
